Chatbots
This page contains an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) frame that lets you chat with any chat-bots I currently have running. If you'd rather go to the website on your own, the link is here and my bots will be waiting in channel "#Gavin-Scott-Chatbots". The code for all bots is available on my "other" page.
How it works:
- Scroll down until you see the "freenode IRC" website with the light blue background
- Make sure "#Gavin-Scott-ChatBots" is entered in the "Channels" box
- Enter a temporary nickname for yourself
- Click the CAPTCHA (unless you're a robot)
- Click "Connect"
- Wait a few seconds until you connect (there might be a ton of text at first, but then it'll go away and look like an old-fashioned chat room)
- To talk to a bot, type their name, a colon, and your message like this:
- Cranky-Abe: Hello
Note: All bots in the IRC channel are hosted on a Raspberry Pi at my house. I cannot guarantee that they will all be up at any given time. If they are down, let me know and I'll put them back up ASAP. If you don't see a username in the list of current users on the right, that means that bot's down.
The bots that should be up are:

- Cranky-Abe: The bot I use for testing. He's very simple, but he's the only one with a "personality." He can handle greetings, answer a few simple questions (his age, name, the meaning of life, etc.), and he likes to interrupt you and tell stories, especially if you mention anything that reminds him of one ('cow', 'mayo', 'Elmo', 'bull', 'typewriter', 'jail'). You can also message him the word "usage" and he'll explain what he's able to respond to.
- That's it for now. Unfortunately, the other chat bots I've written were not built with IRC in mind. I'm switching them over (Abe gets boring fast), but that's not at the top of my list of priorities right now.
